**Greetings, Stronger Faster Houston Community!**
Today marks a special milestone for me – my 3rd anniversary with Stronger Faster Houston, and next week marks 6 years of focused group resistance training. It’s amazing how time flies when you’re having fun, and trust me, every day at this gym has been worth it. I still remember that first day like it was yesterday – the nerves, the uncertainty, and the fear of entering a new gym with unfamiliar faces. I found an open rack, not wanting to get in the way of the regulars or get into anyone’s way, being new and all. The rack I used that day quickly became my go-to rack, the one that would become my trusted partner. Fast forward to today, and it’s still my favorite spot and home to many of my PR lifts.
Starting something new, whether it’s a new gym, a new fitness regimen, or a journey toward a healthier you, can be intimidating for anyone. Opening yourself to new experiences, people, and challenges can feel like a leap into the unknown. Sometimes, staying in your comfort zone seems easier, but here’s the truth: You’ll only progress or achieve your goals with that first courageous step. So, to all our members, whether you’re here on day one or day 1,095, remember that you are part of a supportive community here to cheer you on, guide you, and make this journey worthwhile. If you haven’t been to the gym for some time and want to restart your fitness journey, we are here to support you. Now, let’s dive into what September has in store at Stronger Faster Houston!
**HYROX PFT: Preview the Race of Strength and Endurance**
Please mark your calendars for Sunday, October 1st, when we’ll host a special HYROX PFT event for the second year in a row at Stronger Faster Houston. This will be open to members and non-members and free to everyone. If you have running/endurance friends or are part of running clubs, please invite them to check it out. Last year, our event put up two of the fastest times in Houston.
What is HYROX PFT? It’s a sneak peek into HYROX, a standardized race combining strength and endurance workouts. It’s an event open to the entire community, so invite your friends and running clubs to join in on the action. Stay tuned for the flyer with all the event details. And speaking of HYROX, don’t forget about the main races coming up in November – Chicago on 11/11 and Dallas on 11/18. These races are like a fitness adventure, with 8 fitness events separated by 1k runs. It’s a chance to challenge yourself, race against others, and race against your own personal best. Like a 5k, or half marathon, few are looking to win the race. It’s about setting goals and striving to beat them.
**New Gym Waiver: Keeping Things Current**
We’ve given our waiver a little refresh to align with 2023 standards. If you haven’t already, please check your junk or spam folder for the link to the updated waiver. You can also find it on the Wodify app or the coach board at the gym. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities, so ensuring everything’s up to date is essential.
**Programming**
This week marks the third week of the cycle. We are building weight, culminating with a 1+ where you try to get 1 or more reps on the last set. If you can get 3 or more reps, please discuss with your coach to adjust your reference weight.
**Reminders**
- Hydrate – We have filtered water at the gym, bring a reusable bottle, and drinks are for sale in the refrigerators.
- Parking – We can park in the HandleBar parking lot for free during class. If the attendant gives you a hard time, have them call their supervisor.
- Sign into Wodify and track your lifts, and sign the waiver.
- Ask coaches questions, scaling, modifications, weight suggestions, form, spotting, anything.
