Stronger Faster Members Support Charities: MS150, Alzheimer’s, and More

MS150 Recap: Kudos to our members Adrienne, George, Alex, and Colin who all participated in the MS150 cycling event last month! This two-day, 150+ mile ride from Houston to La Grange to College Station raised crucial funds for the National MS Society. Both Adrienne and George cycled around 180 miles by taking the voluntary 100 mile day 1 route.

Lance also volunteered for one of the teams to help with logistics/food/lodging and we plan to peer pressure him into riding next year. Congrats to our Stronger Faster cyclists and volunteer for braving the elements to complete the ride. Who is in next year?

Side Note: The MS150 and Ironman Texas were both held at the end of April. This is a superb time to pick up a used road or tri bike as many folks are one and done and will be selling their gear. Check Facebook marketplace for potential deals.

Blondes vs Brunettes: For Alzheimer’s

The Blondes vs Brunettes Charity Football Game is on May 11th, Stronger Faster coach Meredith Z. participating on the Brunettes team and member Peter T. is the Brunette’s coach. If you want to support them, consider attending the game or donating to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

HPD Bike Relay

Many of you know our gym member Adrienne K. has been raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She is selling shirts for $10 and hats for $15, with all proceeds going to support the Houston Police Department’s bike relay team. This team will be riding from Houston Tx. to Pensacola Fl. from June 7-12 to raise money and awareness for blood cancer research.

Nutrition Tips:

Looking to clean up your diet and eat a bit healthier? Here are some nutrition tips to keep in mind:

  • Drink a glass of water before meals to help feel fuller
  • Eat until you’re 80% full, not stuffed
  • Center meals around a lean protein source
  • Aim to increase your veggie and fruit intake
  • Eat on a consistent schedule instead of grazing
  • Limit alcohol and avoid late night snacking
  • Aim for heathy Whole Foods and protein for 80% of your meals, you don’t have to be perfect

Small, sustainable changes can go a long way! Let the coaches know if you need any other nutrition advice.

Upcoming Event:

Murph on Memorial Day

Don’t forget – we’ll be offering our annual Memorial Day “Murph” workout on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th! This brutal but rewarding tradition honors Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005.

The workout is:

  • 1 mile run
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 air squats
  • 1 mile run

Don’t let it scare you, you can split it up any way you want and join us for this special workout. You can do it all with a vest, without a vest or any portion of the workout. Modifications and scaling are encouraged.

Note: Only one class that day at 9am for Memorial Day.
